How many of you guys out there have had experience with pellet furnaces? I am looking into a Harman PF100 for my new home I am building next year. I don't have natural gas available to me and if I do use propane, I have to bury the tank. If that is the case, then I have to buy it. In my area, things are super expensive. That alone is $3500. So I am thinking about a forced air heating system with this pellet furnace, but I have not found a whole lot of reviews online about them. I hear Harman is supposed to be good brand, but not much info out there on there furnaces. Plenty of reviews on the stoves, just not furnaces. I was planning on installing a backup electric coil downstream of the furnace, just in case I ever had a problem with the furnace and it went down for a short time period. Any personal experience would be gladly appreciated!!! |

Can you buy the pellet fuel in bulk and have it loaded into a big hopper from a truck, or do you have to dump each individual bag in by hand? |

Oh I just saw this post . Yea I can get bulk delivery and the site where the furnace would be at is in a large garage where I could back up a truck and unload a couple of pallets real easy. If I bought the big hopper that the sell as an option for $1400, I think I could get 1500 pounds of pellets in there, but not sure if I could get a truck to actually dump them in the hopper or not. I have never seen pellets in any other form than 40 pound bags. But even at that, it doesn't seem like that much of a big deal if the bags are right there, just to dump them in by hand. The stock hopper that it comes with it holds about 150 pounds. I in the cold days, I would probably have to go load that every other day if I didn't get the big hopper. Have you seen these Pellet Furnaces? |

I have a Harman PF100 and love it. It does a great job with little attention. I clean it about once a month after I burn a ton of pellets. It was a little more this year but it was below 0 much of the time. I put a bag or two in every day during the cold months but I am down in the basement almost every night any way. There is a low fuel light on the thermostat (which is upstairs) that blinks when the fuel gets low. I had a Magnum 7500 that wouldn't quite keep up when it was very cold. The Harman keeps the house warm at even -20 F. I am very pleased with it. |
