Hello all. Will begin to build home in 10 months. Will use a contractor. Contractor generally builds 2x6 with spray foam and osb sips. His concerns about using fiber cement sips are: Even when properly painted moisture (rain) will move through the paint and will be absorbed by the fiber cement panel. When this happens, will the bond between the insulative material and the panel be compromised? And as moisture wicks back out of the panel, will that then have a tendancy to lift the paint? I have more questions to ask, but these are 2 of the biggies that I must find answers for before going any farther. I would appreciate any information "ya'll" could provide. Thanks. Scott.

You are in the ICF forum, so you may get more info in the SIPs forum.

However, once you determine the vapor motion of SIPS you can determine how to proceed. In simple terms, if your contractor uses one of the rainscreen type housewraps, such as Tyvek StuccoWrap(ribbed tyvek), RainDrop, HomeSlicker, CedarBreather, etc., etc. one of these new style housewraps will handle the possible moisture issues on the exterior.
