Hi! I have a question for you all, and hope that you can reassure me. Our builder is building with Eco Blocks, and, as we're watching the form of the walls rise (still hollow foam), we're noticing that some of these blocks appear worn. The foam is missing in spots and is worn off, so that in some places, we can see right through the wall. Is that normal, or is that a problem? Does it mean that we won't be well insulated, since the foam is worn off already?
If you need pictures to see what I'm talking about, I've got some to illustrate in my most recent blog post, These Hollow Walls: http://hmp2z.wordpress.com. The pictures are at the bottom of the post.
I am hoping that this is a normal thing, not an indicator of poor quality blocks.
Thank you for any help/feedback! Heather Wright

The places that you have pictured of no great concern. The one has some beads missing on a tie. The other shows a block that got dropped on a corner. Neither are cause for worry. No loss of insinuative quality and not a structural concern at all. Things happen in shipping beyond the installers control. It all comes out in the wash. |

Sounds like a case of pour fusion. It generally doesn't affect the forms performance thou. Make sure your builder brings it to the dist. attention before the pour just in case something goes wrong. |

Strap the bad spots!
If it looks bad it is.
I have found weak spots like this will crack and pull apart when we pour. |

Thank you for the comments. I was just concerned about losing insulative properties. The builder is experienced with handling ICF forms, so I will trust that he knows how to take care of this & keep it together when he begins pouring.
Thank you again! Heather Wright

Buy a case of spray foam and a cheap foam gun. Give it to your builder and ask if he could fill those spots of concern. You will need the remainder of the spray foam later anyway. Eldon Howe |

Just wanted to give a quick update. They poured the first floor walls, and, though the water from the concrete seeped a bit through the cracks, that was it. The walls were very well braced, so no bulging or blowouts - they're nice & straight now. Thank you again for the help! Heather W
