Good morning Folks,

I'm trying to meet with a school that is looking to build a 83,000 sqft. facility and have a quick question regarding the energy savings.  Is there a calculation on savings using a 6" ICF block or does anyone have a general idea of how much they could potentially save?  They are looking at CMUs and budget is an issue, so I am trying to give them an idea of potential savings and possible financing.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ren

I'm not sure of your position in this project? Are you a committee member, part of the design team, or?

These calcs need to be done in a software environment, which will provide the information based on measured or calculated values for each system. It's not simply save x% A versus B when you deal with such a large structure! It involves the mechanical system, the efficiency of that system, the activity level of the building, etc., etc.

The last commercial project I built was a research lab for UCONN about 14+ years ago. It was a brick and block building with a metal stud interior wall for mechanicals and insulation. A year later I wondered why ICFs were not specified, but the architect and his team did not even know about them.

This is still a problem today, however, each year more information is provided in order to make a refined decision about building better!

renagle,

I am not promoting one block over another here, just trying to give you a source of information.

Nudura was used for a new school in Bowling Green, Kentucky a couple of years ago and I think they have some information on their web site about it. The architect also has a web site with quite a bit of info on the project.

Sorry I don't have the specific web addresses right now, it's been awhile since I looked at it. Try the Nudura site first, then try a google search.
