hello,

I am mid size ICf  contractor, and I have good size ICF project  w/ Brick ledge  for all exterior walls. I will need lots of ledge stirups.  ( My manual stirup bender is too much work) I am planning to by power cutter bender. What is do you know about them? if you were buying what will you buy.

Thanks

Frank

We have an EZ Bend for bigger bar (#5 and #6) We use an Hitachi VB16y for the #3 stirrups when we forget to order them in time from the local concrete supply house. They make and deliver each stirrup for about $0.40

Fturkdal,

Look at the Rod Chomper. It seems to work well.

We use a Hitchie VB16Y for all our needs.  Am going to buy a Benner- Newman for cutting larger bar.  If I am cutting a whole lot of bar the same length I use a cutoff saw.

I got an EZ-Bend that handles up to #6 grade 60. My engineer likes it because the bend radius actually meets code compared to most manual benders with too small.

Thanks for all the inputs. I am having problem getting my brick ledge stirrups prebend. I request quote from one of my supplier and ihave not heard from them ( 700 pcs. may be too little) I callled and got price from one bigger co. and their price is $ 1.95 ea. + tax and shipping. I still think I should by the power cutter bender. Question is which one. I like one has tool kit for diffrent dies for diffrent diameters.

Hitachi VB16Y looks good. Can you fabricate all stirrups about same dimension?

Frank;

Using a VB16Y is convenient, but the hook is large and leaves very little clearance from the foam on the brick ledge, I recommend using the old fashion manual bender, the hook is tighter and keeps adequete clearance for concrete. As suggested earlier, use a quick cut saw to cut all your lengths, make a template stirup then just start bending, you'll be done in no time.

We have 2 vb16y's, I believe that you can change the size of the die on the bender to get the desired radius for the stirrup. Since you can bend 2 pieces of steel at the same time with the hitachi I just use a 'template' stirrup to build the rest by placing the template on top of the next piece i am bending.

Hi pcoughlin,
When you bend your stirrups is it one man or two man operation. Trying to figure out how easy to use.. is VB16y rated for continues use? I can't find any info on their dies. Where do you get them.

Thanks

Sorry I thought you could change the die size on the vb16y but after some searching I dont think you can. However I have not had a problem with the stock die that the unit comes with in terms of having a radius that is too big for any 6" icf application. When making your own stirrups it is definitly a one man operation. What I do to make a stirrup is figure out the stirrup size I need according to the lintel size and spec of the corresponding horizontal rebars and then determine a inner top to bottom measurement for my stirrup. After determining the correct size (so that you get your clearances for your inner horizontals top and bottom) I make a template and then cut and bend the required amount. Heres an example of a lintel over a 16' garage door on my current project:

Nice picture,

Looks great. Like Chris mentioned hooks may be to big for brick ledge stirrups.

Thanks

Kevin,

I could not find vb13y on ebay or web. no one has listed price. if i can get for $ 500.00 from ebay it is well worth it. does hooks small enough for brick ledge (amvic) stirrups.

thanks

Frank
