I have just built an icf basement and garage foundation. They are listed as 10 inches thick. Engineering called for NO rebar in the walls (9') tall I put in one nuber 4 at 1 and 4 ft and a double at 6 inches from the top as well as verticals every 4 ft. The question is when putting on the first floor-setting the beams the outer thickness of insulation is 4 inches and the inner is 2 1/2   16 inches overall. The drawings called for a 2x8 on top of the wall. That would provide very little bearing on actual concrete for the the beams. My solution was to cut the 4 inch panerls on a bevel on the top of the wall so at the to the insulation is about 3/4. The bevel is only about 6-7 inches in height. The building inspector had some question over it as well. I then upsized the plate to 2x10 with slightly offset anchor bolts to allow for proper concrete wrat around. I had also (out of ignorance) crossed the rebar on the corners instead of bent it. Some comment was mad over it so at the tops I overlayed and tied 3 ft #4 bent around the corners tied to the parrallel #4 I had layed in.  Overall it has been said this is way overbuilt I will be using platon as waterproofing as well up to ground level. As a novice I will have to look back in the instruction manual but I believe I braced according to instructions. I had 4 full blowouts and 2 partials I will end up with a small cold joint and ended up putting off the garage footing for another day. 6 trucks with 2 moderately skilled truck operators no pump and ended up with a 6+ slump. After wetting it up no blowouts just lots of nervousness. ANYWAY the question is about the loading any comments will be appretiated.

What wall thickness are you working with on the stick frame portions?

I'd be interested to know which system you used, as you say no re-inforcing steel was specified in a 9 ft foundation wall ?

Eric,

In the IRC, in certain parts of the country you can build a 10" basement with no rebar. But typically I have seen this in central Canada.

I dont know what the PE reasoning was but I believe it was effectively that the house could have been done with conventional forms at 6 inches with rebar. I beliueve that following the prescriptive guidelines he determined that it was unessesary and that was supported by the manufacturer (TF systems)
