Is using icfs as a below grade foundation system (for a crawl space) also insulating the floor. Then using sips for the structure a viable way to go. The home will be a large single story ranch design. I will be building in North Carolina (scotland county) not far from Rockingham and Pinehurst.

The insulating characterisitcs of ICFs below grade eliminates the insulkation requirement in the first floor diaphram!

I believe I understood it that way, so if the crawl walls are ICFs, you do not need to insulate the wood? first or main floor, insulating the rat slab is a good practice especially depending on whether you will be using a ventilated or unventilated crawl area. In this case a ventilated crawl causes other insulation issues.

There is some good information on closed (unvented) crawlspaces available at http://crawlspaces.org.

This site has links to North Carolina specific information also.
