jmagill,
To answer your question "If I can build a wall with the same insulation and same thickness of concrete for the same price but one wall saves me on my heating and cooling bills why would I not go with that one?" Because the ease of doing electrical, plumbing, windows, doors and so on ICFs over the method you are doing.

I am sure your house will be very nice and maybe (or maybe not) be slightly more energy efficient than an ICF house. And I am surely not trying to convince you to do something else, I would even consider it for my house. But as someone that makes a living building better structures it is not an overall better system for the larger market.

You go on and on about how ICF is much better than framed systems.

Well guess what, the framers have been saying the same things about ICF with regards to the ease of building, electrical, plumbing.

New products and uses are always met with resistence. Some of them deserve the doubt some of them don't.

I always like the continued discussion and vetting of various building systems. As continuous improvements come about, one may leapfrog over the other for a time so it necessitates a continuous discussion and ongoing assessments.

Kind of like LCD vs. DLP tech for projectors/TV's The discussion on those forums is always fierce ;)

It is not resistance, I have some far out there ideas and I have dealt with resistance in this industry for years and am always looking for new ways of doing things. But the difficulties in using that method do not out-way the alleged benefits, to market the system. Whereas to compare ICFs to wood framing it is not more difficult to do electrical and plumbing.

Actually , you just said it all. Too much work for you to market. You don't see enough benefit.

Guess what others do! Just like those people that first took on ICF.

Don't be offended, but you misunderstand me. I don't see any benefit. It is more difficult, limits design and only possibly makes a house slightly more energy efficient.

For a one-off house, sure. Thankfully people try new things and if the difficulties are resolved and more testing, that system could get somewhere. It definitely sounds better than the allwall system. I have been asking for a drywall replacement for years, the MOG sounds interesting.

ICF Construction and jmagill;

Hope that the two of you aren't going to engage in a "Tribal ICF war" (as Toddm would say) :)
I believe that Lop-sided ICF's and "Conventional" ICF's are part of the same family. TF, Quadlock, Integraspec as well as Isomax just offer flexability to which a growing number of people consider; in the construction of exterior walls, the "Best thing since sliced Bread"

No war, just differening opinions and an exchange of information that we hope helps someone.

I have learnt so much from this website and the people on it. (Even if I don't agree with them)
