We are in final planning stages of building our ICF house next year. Got contractor nailed down and decided what we want for most issues. Unfortunately it looks like I`ll have to start pretty late in the season (here in Quebec anyways) so I was wondering if it is ok to leave the walls uncovered during the winter and continue in the spring. Exterior will be brick all around. Using Nudura blocks Thanks for any help/advice

Oh, should probably add that the windows/doors will be in, the roof on and the house will be heated

You should be fine. The only thing you will get for leaving them uncovered is a little dust on the surface from UV degradation. All you have to do is brush it off when you are ready to cover it.

Thank you,
Thats the same thing my contractor told me so thats good.
Actually I was more worried about the snow and rain. Would wrapping it in house wrap for a winter be an option or is that just money thrown away?

Rain and snow will not affect your ICFs. The sun will cause more damage than the water, and for a period of a few months, that will be no problem. Save the cost of the house wrap.

In the mean time I`ve contacted Nudura, still waiting for their reply. I guess I am just a bit nervous about it so I wanted some independent sources. I`ve seen stickbuilts go through the winter here without exterior finish (one even was the contractors own house and he was living in it)
Should have been bit more detailed too.
We are looking at a period of 6 months, between end of October till beginning of April.

I have seen ICF's that were uncovered for 2-3 years with no problem. The ICF system acts as a water vapor, so you should be fine.

Well, I heard back from the Nudura rep here in Montreal and he basically said the same thing you guys said. The sun would be more of an issue. Will pay extra attention to the finishing around doors and windows. Thank you all
