I have a small job coming up in which I will be using waffle grid type icf. Does anyone have experience installing electical in this type of icf? I have always used flat wall systems. On flat wall systems, I always use metal boxes if the foam thickness is 2 1/4" or less and I use plastic boxed on icf's with a foam thickness of 2 1/2" or greater.  The boxes could obviously be mounted to the concrete anywhere on the wall with a tapcon. What happens in a screen grid type icf? It is unlikely you are going to find a flat spot anywhere in the wall to mount a box. I want to be able to mount boxes anywhere on the wall, I don't want to use the boxes with a flange and mount to the ties. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

On waffle grid blocks we normally use 4 x 4 x 1 1/2 side mount with 1/2" plaster ring for drywall. Those areas where the wires exceed the points of the box, we chip out the concrete for the required size box with a side mount. Electrical inspectors in our area frown upon tapconing boxes to the concrete.

We don't have to connect a box to concrete, so there is no difference. The glue is plenty to hold a box.

I have to deal with one inspector who demands there be a mechanical connection of the box to the concrete.

Buntly, glue your inspector to the concrete. He'd prob then change his mind when he goes home w/out a shirt on.

He he he, I don't think he would find that too amusing. I might just have to give it a try though!
