Hello everyone, just new to the site and I am finding all kinds of good info on here. I am getting an RTM house built in Saskachewan Canada and it will be delivered to my property by the end of August or early Sept. I am off the beaten path as they say and I will be heating the home with a wood stove upstairs as well as a wood oven downstairs. I will be using the ILOGIX blocks for the basement and want to know what to take into consideration when framing up the box for the chimney to pass through. As well will the heat from the wood oven cause any off gasing from the ICF blocks, do I have to cover up the ICF blocks right away with drywall to protect the walls from off gasing. The contracter indicated that they do off gas when the sun hits them and you can tell by the discoloration of the walls when this happens. I have search other sites on this but could not find anything about off gasing from this product. As long as I follow the directions for my clearances around the stove to combustibles would I be ok?  Or do I need to take special precautions when dealing with ICF?


Any assistance on this matter would be appreciated.

off gassing is a non-issue. The discoloration when exposed to sunlight is a miniscule amount of foam degradation and not off gassing. Follow the minimum clearance for combustibles and have at it.

Does your stryofoam cup change color when you fill it with hot coffee?
The exterior discoloration is caused by UV radiation, not heat. Follow the installation instructions for your oven/stove, or local code requirements.

What could I use to insulate around the box and the ICF,  I live in an area where the temps reach -50 below at times and thus want something to keep the elements out.
