What is the right way to attach vinyl siding to either ARXX or Integra Spec?

I would add vertical furring strips to the ICF before attaching vinyl siding. This allows more rainscreen airspace behind the siding. Increasing the drying potential, and reducing the possibility of mold/mildew forming on the siding.

wes;
I prefer the solid backing behind vinyl siding as opposed the the hollow when furred out, the EPS is not affected by any slight moisture penetration and vinyl siding has built in weep holes to enable drying out, if you add wood furring now you have added a mold, mildew and termite food source |

Chris, I agree that the solid surface gives a smoother finish to the vinyl. However, I have seen so many vinyl jobs that eventually start growing things because of lingering moisture that I now treat vinyl the same as wood siding and give it room to breathe. Good quality (read: thicker) vinyl siding will span 16" without any major waves, and it has reduced our growth problems. |

Wes;
that is the exact opposite per vinyl recomendations of how to install. It states always over a "good sheathing" and not directly to studs.
there is nothing in EPS or vinyl that promotes mold growth |

Thanks for the discussion/posts, I had asked as I have the same concerns over the drying ability and mold growing on the vinyl siding. Local installers want to using furring and I'm just not sure what to do! I'll be asking the question to the ICF installers that have used vinyl siding what there installers had done and the durability of the installation!
Thanks John!

From an environmental standpoint, vinyl siding offers both advantages and disadvantages. It is less energy intensive than aluminum siding but also less recyclable. |
