Hello,

I have been following this forum and have learned much - thank you all!

I am completing the exteriors of an ICF home in northern Ontario and have purchased Hardie board as the siding for the upper level.

We cannot find a suitable fastener that will not pull out of the ICF. The ICF is Nurdura - the sales rep recommended Marker screws, but they are no longer in business. We did a test with ring shang nails, but they pulled out very easily.

Does anyone have some advice for me?

I am looking for an alternative screw supplier or a nail system that will work.

Apparently this is the first Hardie install on ICF in our area and I want to assure that this job goes well.

Thanks in advance!

Check with Hardie, they're very good and have an ICF installation protocol.

Their tech bullutins say to contact the ICF manufacturer

However, I found these on another icf's website that i was planning to use on my project, not sure which one.

I don't know what the webs are like in Nudura blocks since I used BuildBlock for my ICF house. I found that spiral (or screw) shank coil siding nails held the plank about the best. I installed 8" (9 1/4" full width) Hardiplank siding blind nailed on the top edge only. I nailed into every web which means there's a nail every 6". Not a real issue with the use of a coil siding nailer. The testing I did before I installed the siding showed the spiral nails held better than ring shank. The nails pulled through the plank and not out of the web. I would have used screws but I couldn't find corrosion resistant screws of adequate length and size to fit my strip feed Hitachi screw gun.

The only downside is it appears that spiral coil nails may have disappeared from the market.

Even a retired engineer can build a house successfully w/ GBT help!

I used the Marker 8 X 1-3/4 CWL-DRILL cement board screws over TF System. They held very well 1' oc. But, even though these screws are supposed to be self-countersinking, I found that when driving the screw heads flush with the Hardiboard, the foam compresses enough to depress the cement board leaving a wavy surface. I ended up manually countersinking every screw to eliminate this effect. In the future, I would go with nailing the siding and possibly using furring strips.

We ended up fastening 1 x 3 with screws to the ICF to accomodate nailing in the Hardi. The job is going well and it looks great.

I will post a full summary with manufacturer's, contracters recommendations and pics.

Thank you to all that responded!
