Hello Everyone! Home owner here, and I'm looking to quote my new home -which I had originally designed for Post and Beam construction- in ICF. I'm going to try an attach a few 3D models for reference... Let's see how this goes. I'm specifically interested in learning if an ICF roof would even be possible in this design given the steep pitch. (10 Rise, 12 Run) In general, I'd like to hear your thoughts on if you think this design would be conducive to ICF construction. What's important to me: Energy Efficiency European Style Low Maintenance Longevity Where: The home will be built on a waterfront lot on a river off the Chesapeake Bay in MD. Here's the weather information: http://weatherspark.com/averages/31014/Annapolis-Maryland-United-States Thanks for your thoughts. I've been reading a number of threads here with interest. -C2

Wow, it appears the editor really compresses your posts. My original post is barely readable. Let me try this again. Sorry for the double post...

An icf pro named Mark Ross posted pictures of steep pitched icf roofs made with standard icf's. I don't know that the pictures are still available since it was probably 12 years ago in the icfweb days before this site expanded it's breadth of coverage. So to answer your question, yes it is possible

The only possible problem may be the prow on the front and back. But with enough rebar any thing is possible

Thanks for the responses...

Is there a distinct advantage other than structural integrity of building an ICF roof?

it does make sense to make the roof concrete, if you are building an ICF house, it is the most critical component of the building envelope and it is usually the weakest. The ICF houses in Ok. that got hit by the tornadoes, guess what came off first, and of course everything else was ok but the rain ruined the interior contents and all the drywall, so if you figure that the concrete roof would save you that expense alone makes sense. But this is why it really makes sense, if you figure the amount of money for the trusses, plywood and installation then add in the spray foam that is necessary, again this is an ICF house, you must spray foam the roof system for the R-value and air tightness or use a SIPs Roof system, then compare that cost to an ICF Roof system. Now calculate the square foot costs of those systems?

Thanks for the response!

That's probably what iI'm going to do. I'll have the ICF builders quote it both ways and make the choice that best suits the project. I'm not in a Tornado Prone area...
