I had a convo with an installer that is working on a commercial ICF job with a lot of door and window openings. They had planned on pouring steel frames in place, but their door installer dropped the ball (what they wanted and what he manufactured were not even close to the same thing). To keep the job on schedule, they were forced to pour the ICF walls, remove the door bucks and now are trying to find a good option to tie in a steel, fire-rated door to the poured wall. Not sure if they left extra space to grout in a frame or plan on fastening a steel frame directly to concrete. Any suggestions on how to best approach this/products to use? Any advise is appreciated!

Send the frames back and have them dimpled so they can be screwed into the concrete and the screws flush with the face of jamb. Then drill a couple of 3/4" holes on the tops of the frames and have the most patient guy you have start filling with grout using a grout bag

They frames they discussed were to be made to pour into the concrete and have a finished molding inside and out. When they showed up on site, they were simply a 6" steel door frame, so using the frames is not an option. They really are starting from scratch at this point. So if there is any products/contacts who may carry this type of door (looking into masonry doors currently), I am open to suggestions.

Try Atlas Metal Products in Louisville, KY. They own Stala Framing which makes an integrated steel door and window bucking system for ICF walls. They have the ability to do mass customization and can likely manufacture exactly what you need.

Stala is a good product and we've used it on a number of schools. However, given that in this case the doors are already on site -- or if the doors arrive on sight and you get surprised by this again you might try the following: See photos it involves building two buck for each opening one inside that comes out and one that stays in. Also, if you've done this kind of thing before you know that you cannot take any chances with the frame not staying perfectly square. Also, although this solution works well it is generally better to just order correct jambs. Regards.

How about a door steel frame from https://www.bestofsteel.co.uk? I had very good experiences with it, the service is great and I was always advised accordingly.

The project I was references is long since completed (ended up using Gorilla Buck, FYI).

Glad to hear about new products, though. There is always a next project.....
