It was 2 months ago, but Smartwall mentions the $CDN exchange rate in this thread. I'm building in Montana (south of Missoula) and we have been working with Quadlock. Their quote was lower than Nudura(also made in Canada). All of Quadlocks pricing has been in USD, even though the blocks are coming from Vancouver, BC. Can those of you experienced in this help me understand whether my quote is fair? My quote is $8.20 for a pair of 12 X 48 panels(making a 4 ft-sq block) and $1.00 per tie. So, overall I am at $12.20 for 4 square feet, or $3.05 per square foot. Sailaway, maybe you can chime in on the BB estimate you got. |

There's a bit of a trick here. It can be a Canadian manufacturer but if their product is molded in the US then the advantage is gone. You could try Superform or Plastifab both out of AB as pure Canadian plays |

Thanks, Smartwall. I did some comparisons and it appears that QL has given me a very competitive price. For those of us who are building their own house without the benefit of repeat purchases to validate prices, it is nice to be able to get some validation here. |

I know others enjoy assembling blocks, but my time is a little more valuable then that. But you can get better freight on knock down blocks. And I use BuildBlock. |

As a DIY thinking about buildblocks, on the knockdowns versus the assembled, the possible shipping difference (based on the shipping estimate we have) can't be worth the risk of making a mistake from my perspective. Granted, the majority of the blocks are being shipped from within my home state, but unless the savings were more than $3000 I don't know if I'd consider it. Aside from the time, from a DIY perspective, the risk of not doing it properly in one spot is really intimidating for that option.
