I'm planning to build with ICF this year and have not decided between vertical or block, so obviously I have not decided on a product yet.   I have searched the forums and web and googled forever and one thing is certain; there are lots of opinions out there!!   In the end, I think the fact that one block or vertical panel may be  better than another really comes down to crew experience.  I think on scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best system ever,  I could pick a system rated as a 6 but have a crew that has built 100 homes install it, and I would probably be happier than using a system rated 10 but I try to do it myself.

That being said, are there any ICF builders in VT on here?

Next question for those who have actually built a home using ICF's ( either DIY or hired)  what system would you recommend and why?   Vermont is zone 6.  Looking at a 3,000sf colonial, 2 story with a full basement.  ICF garage as well.  Probably Insul deck for the second level ceiling with a roof truss on top.  My wife has health issues and mold is a major factor for choosing ICF.

Thanks in advance.

there are several highly qualified ICF installers in Vermont. Find a qualified installer whom has been through manufacturers training, ask for references and do your homework on those references. If you live in Vermont now I would begin by asking the local concrete plants and pump companies. I could tell you the best system, but 100 people with little to no experience would chime in with their opinions. If you want direct contact information I can private message that to you as well.

I tried to PM you but got a "critical error".

Can you send me a PM with who you think the best is? Are you from the area? Can you name a few of the better installers here?

Thanks

Bruce

I tried to PM you as well, but got a critical error. This was the message:

Thanks Bruce. I watched a couple of the videos on your website.

How do you handle the connection at the horizontal construction joint at the top of the basement and top of the second floor? I like the idea of pre-cut. I even would consider pre-assembled. Would you ship out of Canada to Northern VT?

Thanks

I travel a lot working on ICF installations. I can recommend some guys from your area. Not sure why the critical error, I provided an email (didn't know I wasn't supposed to). Personally I wouldn't trust anyone on this site, I would look for local distributors; pump companies know who to call as well...and they will know who is good at ICF.

Kind of wonder if those that are pm'ing can't stand up to public scrutiny. Personally I wouldn't trust anyone who has to hide behind pm's.
Of course the are lots of experts with no expertize on this forum but they either add information or give an opportunity to correct information.
