I have been looking into building with ICF for about 6 months. I plan on doing the installation mostly myself with my brother and father. We are not professionals but we have all had a lot of experience in construction. I also will be employing a contractor as a consultant/leader on this job. I have had many quotes and talked with many different companies. At this point I am leaning away from Polystyrene due to the off-gases. I am leaning towards ThermaGreen Polyurethane block at this point but I am trying to choose between that and Durisol. I am having trouble finding literature or even any additional information in regards to thermagreen block. Has anyone used it? Any info would be very helpful. Thoughts of Durisol vs ThermaGreen? Cost? R-Value? Weather? Breathability? Moisture? Install? Thanks!!! Matt

Your choice but each product has diff properties and diff installation methods. Your budget may help you decide once you get rough estimates in.

Question, which ICF setups have you looked at with EPS that actually has off-gassing?

Just to pull a couple suppliers from someplace dark and poopy-smelling...

Quad-Lock: No off-gassing.
Nudura: No off-gassing.
Fox Blocks: No off-gassing.

You are likely confusing Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and Extruded Polystyrene (XPS). Both products use a polystyrene bead as their base ingredient, but differ in the manufacturing process. XPS traps the blowing agent into the foam, which then off-gasses through the life of the insulation, while EPS extracts the blowing agent, leaving a safe, inert product that does not off-gas. The blowing agent within the XPS product accounts for the slightly better R-value vs that of EPS foam. IMO, once the off-gassing is complete, you will be essentially left with an EPS foam, so R-value through life of product will end up being very similar.

Most major ICF brands are produced with EPS foam, so off-gassing in a non-issue.
