I live in northern British columbia, Canada, and my home will be built on consolidated Clay. I have a drier location and I am using ICF and Monopore system for my foundation. I am building a Slab on grade, so no basement.....the question is....should i still waterproof the ICF even though I have no living space under my slab? |

WP is not required unless the backfill is higher than the level of interior finish. In other words, if the ICF is buried inside & outside (ie, frost wall, grade beam, etc) no WP is required (unless local code is unique in your area - may be best bet to check with your local code official). |

"Waterproof" in the traditional sense? Probably no. You will STILL want to have a vapor barrier (fluid-applied, peel & stick or wrap) however. And, depending on your exterior finish, you'll want some sort of air gap between the cladding or an integral drying layer underneath something like stucco to allow water to properly escape the wall assembly. |

Again check local code, but 9.13.2.1(1) in 2015 National Building Code of Canada states that dampproofing is only required where in-fill is lower than backfill. Unless your local code has other requirements, an ICF frost wall that is buried on both sides should not need to be dampproofed/waterproofed. |

I asked same question of a couple of concrete suppliers all said yes but it will double the price of the concrete, which is why everyone goes for underslab dpc
tanking of walls if below grade walls encompass usable area |
