Hello. We just finished our Nudura ICF home, and after all the dust settled, we have some left over ICF pieces. Not full pieces just decent sized scrap pieces and Not a lot, but an idea popped into my head I wanted to explore. We did a lot of the build ourselves. We had some help with the ICF part from the local rep, who was AWESOME. I’d like to build a small sauna and these leftover ICF pieces seem like the ideal product to build one with. I may need to buy a few more Nudura blocks from the local dealer, but not a ton. However, seeing as how sauna temps can reach 200 degrees F, I wanted to dig into this more. How I see this build going in my head is to build a small two bench sauna, 8x10’ ish, 7’ ceilings, wood fired, with a small changing room, 6/12 pitch metal roof. I would line the interior with the vapor foil liner that’s taped at the seams, then finish it in cedar. Our Nudura has a pest treatment in the block, but if the inside is lined with a vapor barrier, I don’t see a problem with any off gassing. I would finish the outside with leftover siding so it would match the house and left over metal roofing, basically use up additional materials. Here is the link for the block specs. I’m not an expert is this aspect of the product but the foam flame info might hold the answer to my questions. https://www.nudura.com/media/3526/nudura_10_part_specification.pdf?sfvrsn=0 Is this idea a good one or a disaster waiting to happen? Thanks!

200 degrees will not be a problem for the ICF block, but I think the human occupants might have a problem with that!
Details matter!

Congrats on your new ICF home. Looking to build a house this summer and with lumber prices it seems like a no brainer. I like the idea of having the foam on the outside of the sauna, but the inside not so much. IMHO its not worth the possible health risks. Would you not be piercing the vapor barrier when hanging the cedar? If you have the option to slap plywood to one side and leave the interior wall exposed that would be golden.
