I have enjoyed reading the forum for the past few years as my wife and I planned our ICF home. During that time, I have seen several different threads on using Black Jack and other coatings as a primer or an extra layer of protection for waterproofing. Some of those threads are several years, if not a decade old by now. Would anyone mind sharing if their opinions have changed after this passage of time? I ask because our home is at the stage where we are going to be waterproofing as soon as there is a break in the cold. I would like to use Black Jack 57 because it makes since to me as a lay person. I recognize my limitations as a lay person though. I was considering using the Black Jack above grade to seal the Pre-Buck around my windows and doors as well. Our weather has got the Pre-Buck looking pretty rough at the moment. Thanks to everyone for your info on the board.

I have been pushing BJ 57 for quite a while. I don't use it as primary waterproofing but as a secondary product under dimpled membrane below grade. Using it usually when we have a situation where the excavation shows a source of water might be a problem in the future. I don't see it as a problem around bucks , to help seal against water intrusion. As far a weather is concerned, it is a water born product and will freeze leaving it useless plus the surface needs to be dry until it skins.

Thank you for the input.

We are in the south so our problem is not the cold as much as the rain right now. Once we catch a dry spell, I was considering rolling on (or spraying) Black Jack on the bucks to protect them from more water wear and tear.

Smartwall,

Have you ever used BJ 75 for flashing over brick ledge?

I am trying to figure out what we are doing under and behind our brick. We do not have alot of it so I am trying to avoid complicated flashing.

Thank you.

Double coat. Make sure it is completely dry between coats, and don't spare the product. Put it on like someone else paid for it. If you don't have it on you when your done, you didn't put enough on.
