Hi,
I'm going to be building a house in northern NH soon. Two story ~2300ft simple rectangle, high efficiency, lowest VOC & highest indoor air quality possible, and so on. I'd like to use ICF (probably AMVIC R30) since it seems like a superior building method.
However, I've read a few articles on the flame retardant in EPS like this one: https://www.upi.com/Science_News/2021/02/23/flame-retardant-polyfr-toxic/8341614096712/ Seems like the new PolyFR that replaced the HBCD might be an issue for human health? The test though was only in 140f+ temps or with ultraviolate light exposure? And if its foil-wrapped the PolyFR cannot escape? And Amvic switched to Emerald 3000 FR instead of PolyFR now?
If any of the experts here can shed some light on this I'd be grateful. We have three young kids and what as few carcinogens/mutagens floating around the new house as possible.
Thanks all! (also sorry this is all block text, not sure why I cannot do paragraphs on this forum). |
