Started a build with one delivery of Nudura blocks a month go, just got a second delivery this week. When I tried stacking the new blocks, and started having trouble having everything fit.
First I thought I was out of level, but then I noticed that the nubs aren’t even lining up.
Anyone experienced this before or have any suggestions?

Measure the blocks. A dark secret is that icfs or any eps will shrink over time. If you receive blocks that are freshly made they may not fit. You should always order all your blocks for the complete project at once.

Hit with 2x4 to help get them together....2x4 spreads the load out to not damage them to bad, also is cheap and easy to find.... We call our 2x4 the magic wacker....you can cut one end smaller to make a grip so it's easier to handle... |

So Nudura basically told me to cut off the nubs off of the old and new and strap it OR shave off the ends, cut the middle and try to force it down and hope the course after will fit… |

That's one reason I decided to not distribute their blocks. I had to accept blocks that were up to 3/8" out of spec. Tell the distributor to come make the adjustment. Shouldn't be your problem. Or you should get a substantial discount. |

Wonder how much of the size difference is due to their blocks being so long....If they were 4 footers they would only be out by 3/16 which isn't much. |

We never had that issue with Nudura or BuildBlock...but we always used same lot of fresh blocks. My guess is your issue is largely the result of mixing different lots and ages of blocks. |

As with anything the quality of the molder makes a difference. We used BuildBlock molded by CBIS in Mass. without a doubt the best blocks I ever used. Some companies can make a great product and others can't. |

I can attest that if the blocks are older and not part of the same "production batch", there will be some small variances. In winter, EPS will shrink. In summer, EPS will expand. EPS sitting outside will also take on water if snow/rain hits them for extended periods.
This can all affect on how the blocks attach and connect. Just food for thought.

Nudura allows up to 3/8" (10mm) on length, and this problem your seeing is similar to 2006/2007 when it was a major issue, basically weren't baking the block long enough after manufacturing - btw, Nudura is the only company who bakes their blocks, all others are made in the form machines and placed on a pallet immediately as opposed to Nudura who bake them for 24 hours. The quality of their blocks seems to have gone downhill in recent years, the castellations or nubs certainly break off a lot easier then 20 years ago, I personally would love to see the old weight of the polystyrene used compared to today. In regards to what I see in your little video, those blocks can be put together with a bit of persuasion, start on left side locked in and beat it down towards the one you already have installed, you should stretch the bottom out enough and it'll lock in And Lbear, Polystyrene does not absorb rain/snow to affect the sizing, styrofoam in itself is waterproof |
