Would like to know what people are using for external vibrating since the Wallbrator doesn’t seem to available any longer according to their spokesperson. Someone mentioned that the wall-banger (white UHMW drill attachment) was still available. I’ve been trying to search this forum for the past 2 days but all searches come back with an unrelated error code. I’ve seen the Houston Vibrator but it is large and requires 120v.

Wouldn't recommend external vibrator. You need to do this properly. Something like this:

Oztec 2.4 OZ Electric Concrete Vibrator https://a.co/d/cPeN1AI

The search functionality on this forum does not work. The best way to search for some topic on this forum is to leave the forum and use Google (or your favorite search engine). Enter "Green Building Talk Forums" plus your desired specific topic.

External vibration is worthless. Internal with a minimum head size of 1.75 ". Have 25 years experience and written about vibration on this site many times. Vibrating is the worst job on a pour. It takes 2 people unless you have Magilla Gorilla as a friend. Most pours fall down because of no attention to vibrating the mix.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback and info.

I agree, internal vibration is key. I’ve done 3/4 builds with ICF some full wall and some knee walls.

We’ve internally vibrated each job but also used external vibration to supplement and also used external around bucking, lintels, etc.

Are we wasting time with the external vibration also? Correct internal vibration sufficient I think is what I’m taking away so far?

Sailawayrb, thanks for the heads up. I wasted a couple of days thinking there was a technical issue with the site tht would be resolved. 😆

Smartwall, would be interested if you can point me to any of those other posts.

As I said external is a waste of time. Think about that last tv you bought. It was wrapped in EPS because it takes a shock. As far as post ,it's been probably three years since this came up last. 8 to 10 ft pour should be done in three lifts. First pour is the most important. Even when you fill to the top vibrate that. People are amazed at how far the concrete will slump when you vibrate the top. As per Oztec's own spec, a 1.75" vibrator has an area of influence of 14". That means that on a 200 lin ft build you have to drop the vibrator 170 times per lift to consolidate the CC, times 3 is 510 times . The biggest downfall with icf's is that most pours are not properly consolidated. I've seen this with my own customers. If you want to vibrate a window buck, just take the vibrator head and hold against the buck. One tip wear heavy gloves. If you have a questionable spot, take the vibrator and drive it thru the icf. It will go in with no problem. Oh, one tip I used on my own pour was to use a 500 watt halogen shop light to see what's gone on with the first pour. It's impossible to see the bottom without it. Just have someone hold outside of the icf wall, it will light it up.
