JC,

What do you get for $6/SF? Is that for 5 5/8 EPS foam? Does it include the dimensional lumber for splines? And are the door and window openings cut out? Are they 4x8 panels or ???

Dick,
Yes, that would be for 6.5" SIPS, custom splines(patented) included, all openings cut and wrapped, top & bottom plates, 4' x length panels(up to 24'). About the only thing that would be extra would be a lot of point loads, where there would be more embedded posts.

Thanks JC,

That is pretty impressive. What do you offer for floors and roofs? And do you have a link for engineering specs (load and span tables)?

Dick,
It's your choice. Vaulted: Use SIPS. You could also use trusses or TJI's(vaulted again). We could provide them all, but if you aren't using SIPS, buy them locally and save. Floors: SIP floors are rare, but they are available. Span tables, let me find a link.

Jeff, you quoted that to me (Thomas Carter).  The SF is actually figured to be about 5540 SF.  Now, to be fair, I revisited the quote and saw you had labor and floor system in hte quote.  I can get the floor system locally for under 10,000.  And the labor was under 2.00/SF for the walls per our discussion.  Now you see my sticker shock.  Now lets say it was 5700SF and minus the floor system at 10,000 and Labor at 2.00/SF of wall.  That still leaves 68,600 for the walls.  Much more expensive than my stick frame 2x6 with urethane spray insulation.

A buddy of mine got a price on panels and erection yesterday for a 16 x 24 barn. The quoted included cutouts and the roof but I am not sure what wall thickness was. Regardless - the cost was 55K. Please tell me where this guy came up with that price?

Hard too tell. With 6,5" walls and a 10.25" roof, I come up with:

(12' x 16' x 2) + (12' x 24' x 2) + 128 = 704 x $6 = $4,224
13' x 26' x 2 = 676 x $7.5 = $5,070
(12' high walls and a 12/12 pitch)

For a total of about $9,294 for the panels. Add shipping and installation materials, maybe $12k. Labor is a big unknown, but this looks to be a week max. Now, if the original bid includes a foundation or beams or other things, add them on.

But, yes, $55k seems to be about double of what I would call reasonable.

I'm geting quotes for about 35,000 in now.  But URETHANE Panels!  Wow, about 5,000 more but electrical built in...BOXES INCLUDED!!!  Heck, I get boxes at 1.74-3.00 each (contractors pricing)!  Electrical built in to plans, and R-40 at 6.5".  I think Urethane may be an option.  I don't have to buy boxes for my electrician to install!  Still pricey, but time savings and R-value...?  Maybe worth it.  By the way, R-value for other SIPS is about R-27 at 6.5" if I remember correctly.

Paul,

Is your 13.50 to 17.50 per square foot of living space, or per square foot of SIPs? If it is per square foot of SIPs, then even after converting Canadian dollars to USD, that isn't cost competitive with any SIPs manufactures in the US that I know of.

www.ics-sips.com locations in CO, NC and FL all insulate with polyurethane and install the electrical boxes in the panels.

After 20 years with the same SIPs panel company I have left thier employment. I do not want to get into the specifics but lets just say that I am not going to be satisfied with walking away from the industry and not ready to retire just yet. I have not been on the site for quite a while infact I believe some of my last posts are from 2007. I would like to keep up with what is going on out there so I intend on being a visitor on a more regular basis. My position with the company was more involved with the technical aspects of the SIPs and not so much in sales, so if I can be of any assistance please let me know. Looking forward to catching up on some of the conversations.
