i'm not having any luck finding any prefab housing companies using SIPs. If any of the SIP businesses that advertise and interact here on the forums work with prefab housing i'd like to know. thanks. to clarify, i don't mean mobile homes, i mean prefab/modular/factory built homes.

I am interested in finding the same. This is where SIPS businesses have dropped the ball, they need to be more like panelized companies. Panelized companies will take my drawings and turn them into blueprints as part of a purchasing their complete framing package. I have found one SIPS company that seems to offer something similiar, check out EZ-Build Systems. I found them on an internet search last night, but have yet to speak with them. |

They buy their SIPS from a real SIP manufacturer, throw in a bunch of materials that can be bought locally, jack up the price, and ship them to you. Sounds like a bargain to me! And, what does your post have to do with 'prefab'? |

JC,
Are you a "real" panel manufacturer? Seems to me you talk like you are one, but then aren't you are a reseller of SIPs and components used to build homes? Let's see, lumber companies buy lumber and mark it up and the sell it. Isn't that the same bargain? As a builder, I buy components, mark them up and sell them. Isn't that just business? And come to think of it, I buy my interior from a broker that has drywall, tape, texture and painting crews to be more efficient. Are you suggesting that is not a good thing? And I suppose you would be opposed to having separate crews that could specialize in SIPs, interior walls, and cornice? You wouldn't be afraid of someone who wants to provide a little competition would you? |

I don't know where you are from, (and that does make a difference with transporting modulars), but we just completed construction on a modular built with SIPS. It came from a small mods plant in Tennessee. It was their first SIPS project, built to my specs and at my request. However, I understand that they would be happy to do more. By the way, SIP007, I've worked with several modulars over the years, and we had no more problems with the SIPS mods, transportation wise, than we have with conventional framed products. If anything, the SIPS mods are stronger, therefore less likely to suffer damage during transport. Oh, the mod plant is Geometric Building Systems, Lewisburg TN (931-270-8011). Let me know if you need more info. Wes. |

"Every real SIP company that I know of, will do the same."
Actually, "real" SIP companies (meaning the manufacturer) do not do the same. Far from it! As much as we love our SIP mfg's product, they know absolutely nothing about building with their product and the engineering of it. We work with them because they take our expert advice on building and put more added value into their panels because of our input. If more SIP manufacturers were like them, SIPS would dominate the market...as it stands today, they are not marketed by SIP manufacturers nor do the manufacturers offer other pre-engineered products to complete the system. For the record, a customer cannot simply buy SIPs from a manufacturer & then purchase lumber locally to complete the system that EZ-Build Systems offers. All of our systems are pre-engineered and pre-fabricated (every single component). What this means is that EZ-BUILD SYSTEMS works directly with the customer to determine their needs, expectations and BUDGET and then with each manufacturer (SIP, roof truss, floor joist--all pre-engineered to the customer's blueprints) & then, get this...we engineer the entire SYSTEM. We don't sell SIPs...we don't sell lumber....we sell SYSTEMS...homes & commercial buildings that add value and save $$ to the consumer. Because we buy in such large quantities, no one customer would be able to put together our system on their own for the same price. Nor would they want to because they'd be dealing with a min. of 3 different manufacturers, a lumber yard, an architect, an engineer, etc. Most customers just want to make one phone call--to EZ-Build Systems--and then we handle the rest.
We start by providing the blueprints (which a manufacturer does not do..only shop drawings); then we add all of the shop drawings together, have a structural engineer put them together into one set of workable drawings; stamp them for the state applicable for their building permit and on top of delivering an AFFORDABLE very cost competitive SYSTEM, we offer free technical advice on building the structure to the contractor or owner/builder. If they need one of us on site for their first build, it's a small fee for travel time. I agree with HDFF03 that most SIP manufacturers have dropped the ball on how to market their product. Luckily, our manufacturer has us and we are able to grow our companies together by offering a SYSTEM as opposed to just a product.

See their website. EZ-Build Systems supplies "a type of prefab based on SIPs" in CA, particularly southern California. We are not limited by design though. We can take any set of blueprints and convert them to our SIP systems. A lot of our So. Cal. customers are simply finding a design they like on coolhouseplans.com, sending it to us, and then we do the drawings for our SIPs and for the customer's permit. In fact, if we think we can market and re-sell the design with modifactions, we will purchase the plans on the customer's behalf and only charge them for engineering. We can work with any style design the customer wants because we are not limited by one product or one manufacturer. |

Hi Gentlemen,
I just joined Green Building Talk today. I sell modular homes both retail and wholesale. My partner and I are in the process of introducing SIP modular to the east coast. He is presently working with them in Colorado and Canada.
Please contact me if you would be interested in helping me get SIP modulars on the east coast.
