Can anyone provide a review or share an experience of working with the people and products of the following 2 SIP manufacturers in North Alabama:

Thermasave Panels and SouthEast Building  Panels; both located in Florence, Alabama?

Their products are a little different from each other, and I am interested in some inside information about dealing with them and the quality of their products.

Has anyone had problems with defective materials or measurements, or can anyone sing their praises?  It will make a difference to me to know what your experiences have been with these companies.

Thanks,
Jay

Hello Jay, I have done business with both companies and could give you some info. I am almost finished with my house from SBP and can give you a great reference for them. Where are you going to build.

Thanks, Sammy. I will be building in Fayetteville, TN and want to use panels for my roof.

Did you experience any of the problems mentioned on this forum with the panels not being square or not measuring exactly as ordered? Did they have a representative on site as the panels were installed? Is there anything I need to pay special attention to when dealing with them?

I consider them both to be "local" companies and I like doing business locally, if possible. I hope to go tour the factories next month and ask some questions.

Did you get an estimate before you bought? Was the delivered price pretty close to the estimate? Did you use their design services?

I'm just trying to get comfortable with plunking a lot of money on the table for SIPs and talking to other customers of theirs will help.

Thanks for your assistance.

Jay

Hello Jay, My panels fit together very well and I would use this company again. The plant did have a rep also come down and oversee everything as well as hands on. As far as special attention on things it very important to have your drawings complete and follow them on the outside shell. Many stick builders modify the house as needed to compensate for errors and mistakes. With SIPS, you must have a square foundation and I mean very square corners. Everything transfers up.  Also be sure to follow the electrical drawing in the sip walls and prewire the corners of the house. I put in a couple of extra wires in each corner for just incase and did need them in two corners.
As far as getting estimates, yes I did from several companies and when you get to the final stages of the purchase you have a panel contract that gives you the amount the check is written for. This is a very important step & anyone that can't do this stay away from unless they have a real good reason that you agree with. I also had another drawer do up my house which I should have looked more for one. It does not seem to be a big problem for any of the panel companies to panelize any house plans you have but keep in mind that you can do a lot more with sips than you can with a stick house so dare to explore and ask why can't I do that.
Now as far as the other company in Florence  you had a question about, well since I became a born again christian I don't talk like that anymore. If you send me an email address I will answer you questions outside of this forum, flaming is not allowed.
Now to everyone else who reads this I want to say thankyou for all the great questions and answers. Many of you have helped me and I sincerly do want to say thanks. My house was destroyed during a storm in August 2005 and the road to recovery has been long and difficult but thanks to you guys and this forum I found out about sips and now my house is about to become a home again.

Thank you and may God bless you all,
Sam Ramsey

General Panel has their SIP manufacturing facility in Grenada, MS. These make standard EPS foam, OSB skinned SIPs. I have not used them personally but have heard good things about them and heard their prices are very competitive. I think that is about 3 hours west of your location.

Are you aware that SCIPs and gunite are readily available in Florence, AL? Depending upon your needs and what you want to accomplish, SCIPs might be a better way to go than SIPs.
