I was wondering if anyone has ever encountered difficulties in an attempt to procure homeowners's insurance for a SIPS structure.  Here in the South, it's been my experience that the vast majority of agents and underwriters are totally uninformed about the benifits associated with SIPS technology.  In fact, their ignorance prevents them from even underwriting a SIPS home!!

After Hurricane Katrina, and in an area that borders the New Madrid Fault, one would like to believe that the SIPS representives in the industry would be out there educating the major players, i.e. the mortgage lenders and the insurance industry.  To be sure, many SIPS reps HAVE BEEN educating builders and prospective homeowners but perhaps its time to take it to the next level?

The feds have recognized the advantage of SIPS construction, e.g. Energy Star incentives but not regarding mortgages and insurance.   To be fair, I've researched the "Energy Efficient Mortage" option but many lenders don't offer this option.

One can attend building show after building show but, IMHO, if the SIPS industry wants a larger share of the American home building market then it's time for the SIPS industry to directly educate our Senators and Congressmen/women.  With energy costs on the rise, sub-standard stick framing material (which is due to early harvesting, IMHO) and dwindling resources, perhaps it time to call out those in Washington who receive "campaign contributions" from the mortgage and insurance industries?  Sure, they'll be mad for being outed but, with the 2008 presidential election coming up, they'll have to "man up" and explain to their party nominees as to why they're an embarassment.   Almost sounds like a mafia atmosphere!  LOL!!
