Adam,

Just to be clear about this, are you asking about using steel sip panels instead of reinforced concrete for the basement walls?  I am only aware of treated wood and reinforced concrete walls being backfilled.  I wonder how the G90 galvanized steel would hold up over the years and how would the waterproofing be attached?  I would really like to hear from anyone that has experience using anything other than treated wood or reinforced concrete for structural basement walls.

Alton,
Yep I was wondering if steel sips below grade would work. I read one of the previous topics and they were talking about using steel sips or fiber cement sips for this and I was wondering how well this works. I'm building my own house and was orginally considering doing icfs for the basement and installing them my self. However, I thought a sips panel would be more forgiving than concrete for a do it yourselfer and i assume would go up quicker. And I really don't like the idea of wood below grade but I haven't researched it much. How is the waterproofing done on a treated wood basement panel?

Years ago, with treated wood foundations, the waterproofing was sprayed on.  However, the wood panels were stitting on tamped gravel instead of a concrete footer just like Superior Walls does today.  Of course the drain tile was installed to grade.

Today, if I used a treated wood foundation below grade, I would see what the company pushing the system would recommend for waterproofing.  At a minimum, my guess is that a spray on coat and dimple membrane should be used.

By the way, I have a project in North West Alabama that will be using Superior Walls for the basement and metal polyurthane SIPS for the main level walls and ceiling.  At this time we have the hole dug for the basement.  I expect a lot of excitement blending these two systems together.
