I want to build ICF basement with SIP main floor, and from thinking based on a question from another thread, I realized that I don't know how a SIP roof is done.
Are the Sip panels placed on top of any sort of support or framing?

Any info will be greatly appreciated (graphics even better!)

Depends on span, pitch, and roof style (gable, hip, dormers, etc), but the general rules is that SIPs need much less framing than conventional roofs.  A typical gable roof that isn't too large would need only a beam along the ridge.  The beam would be supported by the gable end walls.  The SIP panels would span from the outside walls to the ridge beam.  That's all you'd need.  Larger roofs or more complicated shapes require additional framing.  A larger roof, for example, might require mid-span beams parallel to the ridge beam to help support the SIPs.  Those would also be supported by the gable end walls.  If the ridge is very long, the beams may need to be supported by a post in the middle.  In general, SIPs are ideal for cathedral ceilings because they need so little framing relative to conventional roofs.

can anyone help i have just started for a sips company in scotland ans i am right in at the deep end without anyone to learn from, i am having real trouble with a four sided hip roof i understand that the panels themselves can b structural and can b supported on themselves but the logistics of erecting the roof i cant seem to get my head round it could anyone help us out if i was to send u the sketchup roof and maybe come up with a minimual timber support structure for it if it needs it, or just an explination would b of great help cheers nic i cant add the sketchup file on here but my email is [email protected] and i can send the file

We use a Center Ridge Beam and we use stem walls on both sides of the Center Beam to take the load off of the Center Beam.  The Gables helps to alleviate the weight of the roof only at the ends of the roof. 

We also had a house erected in Pt St Lucie, Florida that was a Hip Roof.
