Is this a new home?
If not new, what type siding is currently on the house?
OSB sips or steel?
If it is new construction with OSB sips, here is my preferred method of installing any type wood siding, including log.
1. Install 15# felt horizontally to cover the SIPS.
2. Install 1x3 vertical furring strips 16" on center. (This assumes horizontal siding)
3. Install siding to furring strips per the manufacturers' recommendation.
This creates a rainscreen that allows air flow behind the siding. Make sure that you leave openings at top and bottom to allow for proper air movement. This allows the siding to dry properly, and will extend the life of the siding considerably. Be sure to use top quality stains/sealers made specifically for log construction, and cover all four sides and any end cuts made after applying the sealer.
