I want to use sip panels with 4-6 inches of EPS to make sliding doors, instead of and in addition to over-head doors. The building department wants drawings to submit with the permit application. My door sizes are 10x12 and 10x10. The sliding door between the house and garage need to have a 20 minute fire rating.

Does anyone know of drawings that might satisfy them?

Do any sips have a fire rating?

Brad;

mineral wool core panels have a 1 hour rating and some urethane have a 1 hour rating, I don't know of any EPS cores that have a rating without the addition of drywall

R309.1 Opening protection. Openings from a private garage
directly into a room used for sleeping purposes shall not be per-
mitted. Other openings between the garage and residence shall
be equipped with solid wood doors not less than 13/8 inches (35
mm) in thickness, solid or honeycomb core steel doors not less
than 13/8 inches (35 mm) thick, or 20-minute fire-rated doors.

In my opinion any steel skinned SIP would meet the intent of this IBC (International Building Code) code passage, especially a urethane cored Metal SIP.

Thanks for the input, steel sips would be ideal. Any drawings? Even sip cross sections?

Brad,
Check with commerical door mfgrs such as Plyco.
They should have an all metal door unit that would work for you.

Our fire doors here usually need to be self closing, how would you pull that off with sliding doors?

the thread started as a "20 min." door,  that is not a fire door, nor is a closer required for a 20 min. door

No self closer is required.
