This e mail just came from a customer of ours on Cat Island, Bahamas that just survived a direct hit from Irene: ......................."Hi Chris. Well the sips panels stayed on the roof, but lost one section of metal roofing. Understand the black butiment stayed on also. I am in St. Augustine but my girlfriend is on Cat as we had guests staying in the house. Electricity may be off for a month or more. If I build again it will be with sips construction. "

Cool. With all the hurricane news and watching people plywood their windows on the news, I wondered if there is a real shutter out there that provides the aesthitic look but also is closeable and strong enough to protect the window. From hurricanes or zombies! Always wondered what people are screwing the wood into, and what they do with all the holes afterwards.... |

NFC;
the answer is to use impact windows, then no shutters are needed |

Impact windows may keep out the wind and rain but the impact glass may have to be replaced after the storm. Projectiles can break impact glass. |

Alton;
true the glass may break , but the opening will still prevent water/wind intrusion, The beauty of the impact window is nothing has to be done to the window in order to prepare for the storm. I also like Crim Screens. |

Chris, What was the recorded wind speed on Cat Island during hurricane Irene? What wind speed do you think the home was subjected to? Was the home built with metal SIPs? |

This is a nice and can possibly be a positive news to SIPs. But of course,hopefully there will be no longer Hurricane like that! |
