I'm building my first and probably ONLY SIPS home. Actually a builder is doing it for me but I want to be able to monitor it and double check things. I know sealing and taping EVERY opening into the roof is critical. But then what kind of covering covers the OSB? Tongue and groove LOOKS nice but doesn't everyone of those nails punch a hole in the ceiling I so painstakingly sealed up? Same question with sheet rock but I think there would be less penetrations. Are these tiny penetrations not that big a deal compared to sealing and taping the joints? Are there spray on or roll on textured coatings that would actually enhance the sealing of the ceiling? After all the reading I've been doing I think I'll want to double check behind my building crew with my own can of foam before the sheet rock goes up. Last question about the ceiling/roof :in a cold climate (Anchorage Alaska, similar to Minneapolis MN) would you advise a nailer deck before I put on the asphalt shingle roof????
