I live in southern MN. Looking at building a new home in the spring. I have been talking with Enercept as they are only a couple of hours from me and very helpful. Does anyone have an experience with the basement SIPs? I am very familiar with stick-fram wood basements as we put one in my parents house 25 years ago and have many friends who have wood basements--and having no serious problems. Most of the soil around here is well drained and gravely-loam stuff. I just find the idea of doing ICF's--and having to put another wall up on on the inside of that a little redunant.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks--Andy

Why would you put up another wall inside of an ICF wall? They are well insulated and have attachment points for interior and exterior finishing. You should consider ICFs for the whole house.

We supplied Magnum Board, MgO, for a house in Winona MN that had Magnum Board SIPs above and below grade, but the below grade walls had a concrete foundation outside of the SIPs. The interior drywall was also Magnum Board. MgO board won't rot or mold like OSB.
