Tom, also building in Ga, the sips that Chris Kavala are good but I think the metal has some drawbacks. If you find anyone with the OSB (wood) skins let me know. I think they are easier to work all cutouts done and esp elec wiring pre cut, interior & exterior finishing. |

gosolar3, I must ask: Do you base your opinions on experience with metal SIPs and/or OSB SIPs? Which one(s)? How many structures built with each have you directly worked with? Do you design/build? Are you a Licensed Contractor? In what state(s)? Do you represent a manufacturer? I ask this only because everyone on this blog seems to have a biased opinion about SIPs and I am always curious to know who and why? I always try to maintain an unbiased opinion. I have deigned and built with both metal and OSB SIPs since 1975 and I know there are benefits and cons for each and each seems to have its place. I do not represent a particular manufacturer although I do have a few favorites. Respectfully, RichM |

I don't represent anyone Rich tell me the pro's and cons of each please. |

gosolar3, Thanks for the reply. I am truly happy that you have chosen SIPs for your next home (and it doesn't matter which type as long as you know going in exactly what to do). I'm still working on that even though I have been building with metal and OSB SIPs since 1975. Pros and cons of each: I am going to evade this question only because some of the answers are on-line if you search long enough to find them... I simply do not have the time to write them out here. Please call or e-mail me; all my info is available by clicking on my blog name. I would be happy to chat with you anytime. My brother lives near Ellijay; are you near there? How about Georgia Tom? In the green building world there is no one building product that is absolute for any and all building conditions and areas. Each has its pros and cons. With SIPs it's not only what type of skin (OSB, steel) but also what the core is (EPS, PU).
If there was a "perfect" product then everyone would be using it and there would be manufacturers everywhere making it.
