Thanks for the pictures. It's always interesting to see how your projects are built. I'm trying to figure out you post and beam arrangement. Are these site built box beams or something else?

Torben,
site built 6" x 12" box beams 2- 12 inch "C" stud up rights (no holes) and 6" top and bottom caps,
supporting the offset 2nd story walls and one 24ft beam supporting centerline of upper roof
I left there on Tuesday morning and am awaiting final roof pictures ,I expect by tomorrow

I did not realize you could buy studs without the holes (that's a nice option). It looks like your "posts" are 6" x 6" box beams. Did you have to do any special end treatment at top or bottom of post?

What is the advantage to having no holes in a box beam? Does it extend the span capability?

Torben,
yes just request "no holes" when ordering,
the bottom sets in a track bolted to slab, and the top side s are notched and fly-by to tie the sides of the beam to the post.....

Jelly,
does not extend the spans, I simply like the cleaner look and it;s a way to distinguish parts to be used for beams from those that are studs
