SIP Professionals Has anyone ever seen this process with SIPS. I am involved with a project at The PA Renaissance Fair - Mount Hope Winery where Enercept has supplied SIPS that are being applied directly over existing 1" wood siding and metal roof. Screws are going thru panels and then thru wood siding into Timber Frame. For roof they are going thru 100 year old metal roof. Barn walls are complete and working on roof panel. There will also be a 60' x 90' 22' tall addition with flat roof. This will be come Mount Hope Winery when complete. Contact me and I will supply pictures. Thanks, John

John,
doesn't sound like a good building process to cover up those layer, unless there is some reason at least the metal roofing should have been removed ?

From the description it sounds like a leaky kludge. Guess the devil is in the details. Hope they have a robust air sealing and moisture control strategy in place.

This was a well thought out application for SIPS by SIP professionals. The interior will not have any materials covering the SIPS on the roof or walls. They have planned for more than sufficient airflow/movement. This area will become wine tasting area for the connected winery manufacturing area.
Thanks for the input

So are the SIPs on the interior? The first post made it sound like the buildup was SIPS, wood siding, timber frame. Don't think I have it pictured right in my mind.

The SIPS are on the exterior. So 6" SIP on the wall - 3/4 inch vertical barn siding - 200 year old White Oak timber frame. Roof is 10i inch SIP - 100 year old metal roof - wood rafter 24" OC and also into timber frame. If you go to Enercept's face book site or the Facebook site for Mount Hope Winery you can see pictures. Or send me a private message and I can send pictures. Hope this explains it.
