I talked about a no ridge beam SIP roof design. Based on limited talk with a structural engineer who said it would be possible with care to a cantilevered four foot wall for my vaulted attic, I have decided to go with ICFs for the walls. My question is how to best install the roof panels without a lot of help and equipment. With my SIP wall design, I was going to put hinges on the bottom of the roof panels and then build each roof half parallel to the floor. Then I was going to attach the hinges, and stand the roof straight up and secure while building the other roof. I could pull the roof sections up right with a strap and a backhoe planned to be on site. Then I would build the gable ends. Finally the roof sections would be set on the gable ends and tied off using the 90 degree ridge as a regular wall method. I am not sure I can do the same thing with the ICF walls. My thought is to use the same method except the hinges would be screwed into the webs of the ICFs. Since the gable walls would be in place, I would leave the end panel off and use the previous method for the inside panels. I would then be left to find a way to hoist the end panels into position. Perhaps I can add a fork or lever on top of the bucket to push into place with some boards as guides attached to the middle roof section to get the last pieces in place. Does this sound doable or should I just get some bigger equipment for the day?
