We should at LEAST be able to add hyperlink and emphasise text. I also like the ability to edit messages and preview them. The old board was, IMHO, better or maybe I haven't learnt to use this one yet....NOT!

We can emphasize text and we can add hyperlinks simply by using the WYSIWYG toolbar that shows for all browsers except IE7.

It might just be IE7. I installed it, and quickly realized that applets were bombing right & left, and deinstalled it. It's typical M$ lousy code. Nuf, said.

Guess I'll have to uninstall IE7 if I want to enjoy this board...

Yes... that's the only way for now. Or, learn HTML... ;-)

See this thread, also in this section, where they say they are working on IE7 fixes: "How is the WYSIWYG message editor turned on?"

I apologize for the IE 7 inconvenience, we are making changes to the forum so that IE 7 users can utilize the WYSIWYG editor.  The fix should be in place this week.
Thank you again for your patience, and please let me know if you have any other ideas on how GreenBuildingTalk.com can be more helpful to you.

Jamie,
Editing posts seems to be a 'Black Art'. I know that I've seen the 'Edit' icon before, but now it doesn't seem to be there for posts that I've made. Is there a secret or trick?

PanelCrafters, it seems the edit button is available, are you still having trouble with it?

Jamie,

It's El Broko! It seems to show up immediately after you make a post. However, if I go back to an older post(hours to days), the Edit button is not there.

I can easily verify this fact. You might try it. If the Edit button shows up on one of your older posts, my guess is that there is a difference between your user type and mine.

Must be the Twilight Zone here, because I see 'edit' on every one of my posts in this forum, dating back to when this board first changed over the software. BUT, I cannot 'edit' anything I have posted in the ICF Forum.

A lot of boards do not permit post editing after a post is 12 hours old, for example. But, at least on my end -- with both IE6 on XP and IE7 on Vista -- I can 'edit' within this forum.

I just did a post in this thread: http://www.greenbuildingtalk.com/Forums/tabid/53/forumid/4/postid/22467/view/topic/Default.aspx

There is NO 'edit' showing for me after I did it. YET, I can come back here and edit this post a 4th time.

The "missing edit" link that everyone is talking about is now in place. Also, we are still working on the forum software, so there’s no WYSIWYG for IE7 yet. I appreciate your patience, and promise this will be working soon.

Thanks,
Jamie

I wouldn't waste my time. If M$ wants to keep creating non-standard software(and costing the public Billions to adapt), maybe people should start dumping M$, and start using compatible products.

I installed IE7 and found that my standard applets blew sky high. I removed their crap, and went back to IE6. There are simply too many other choices out there to put up with this.

I hate to break it to you, but IE7 is more W3C and CSS compliant than IE6. It's all the software companies that developed their software around IE6 that are having the issues -- mostly with their Javascript implementations. Ditto for "applets."

Well, I hate to break this to you, but why is WSIWYG broken on this site for only IE7? And, blaming companies for 'developing around IE6' is a poor excuse. The problem is that they were forced to make things work on IE5 & IE6. Now, in true M$ style, they decide to become more compliant, and start breaking the hacks that people had to use to get IE to work in the 1st place.

If M$ really was worried about compliance, they should have started with IE5. I won't waste my time developing using M$ products, because I got tired of all of the hacks that were needed to make their crap work.

The problem is that once they have your money, they don't care. Remember, it's not about software, or quality, it's only about the money and world domination.

GreenBuildingTalk.com has been upgraded with the latest forum software.  The WYSIWYG editor should be working for IE7.  Also, the site should be faster. Please let me know if there are any problems with the upgrades.

Thanks for your patience,

Jamie
