Basically this site is using a 7+ year old version of the forum software. It's basically beyond End Of Life at this point, and I've not done any spelunking on the platform it sits on, but willing to bet that it's been upgraded a few times at least (for security reasons if nothing else) and what we are experiencing are bugs introduced by said updates.

It's too bad, because this place is so dang useful.

As far as searching, just put Green Building Talk in the field along with whatever else it is that you are searching for and you will find it. Yes, this website is archaic and broken in so many ways and has been for the 10 years or so I have been here, so I am dubious it will get updated anytime soon.
