A little late to chime in but just in Case,
First I would not make shallow cuts as they may not control cracking as well. I had my slab burnished in by the finisher, and then we used a surface Retarder to slow the curing as it was on insulation. It was then immediately covered with plastic sheeting, for several days. It was then saw cut on a 4 foot grid, 1 inch deep, by someone that takes great pride in his cuts. After framing but before sheetrock, A garage floor guy came in and with diamond pucks gave it a once over, put backer rod in all the cuts to allow grout to adhere should we decide to use it,then used an acrylic sealer, instead of epoxy as epoxy will yellow in the sun. He charged $1.50 per Square foot.
The plastic working with the water and sealer gave us a pattern like a leopard pattern which we love. We have Zero cracks.

I want to get as close to a zero net home as I can, this mean South facing widows with concrete floor for free Winter heat from the sun.
So I have learned a lot about concrete floors today, at least what to ask about & I love the "get everyone hired & on the same page BEFORE pouring" comment.
I will reading this thread many times before I pour. Thanks everyone.
