Why not start a mulch or large sawdust pile and use that for a heat generating cell. pump a water loop through it and heat the home with it. Sell the mulch in the summer and start again for the winter with all the free heat you can take.

I remember in china they had these amazing thermoses for hot water for tea. They wouuld leave hot water outside your door in morning and it would still be hot when you got back to your room in evening.
Last night I talked to an architect who was talking about a demo home in edmonton. Had a water tank insulated to r100 and it still lost a degreeC every 4 days.I've always believed I could build something like a thermos that could store hot water for months.
Still the order now is: -Get house really tight and perfectly insulated.
-add thermal solar panels.
-add small tank for hot water storage
-explore pahs techniques...storing heat from summer for winter. Some kind of big thermos.
