Chris,

I could not agree with you more about Okiemom. I have seen this person posting in other forums RIGHT next to MINE.

PLEASE DONT SERIOUSLY EXPECT TO PUSH A SALE ITEM and say things like you have said. Personally I don't want to hear from people pushing a product. If you are pushing a product to my understanding there is a protocol.

1. First you announce yourself as SELLING
2. Disclose that you are trying to drum up attention for a product
3. Disclose the product.

Even then... pesonally I came here for DIY help for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jeepingetowah- Along the same lines of "other than unbiased information" from those selling you something....

I hope we successfully convinced you of the fallacy of relying on paint as insulation, despite J.E. Pritchett's strenuous sales-pitches for his SuperTherm product? (Bob Vila appears to have become a sellout to more than just this company, IMHO. He's no building scientist- he's the bobble-head in front of the camera with the name-recognition, which is fine, as far as it goes.) SuperTherm is as good as many of the better "cool roof" materials, but "insulation" it is not, and it's by no means head & shoulders above the competition flat-roof products amongst cool-roof materials. Pritchett's willingness to completely mis-characterize how fiber insulation works is breathtaking, since he clearly HAS to know better, and can't credibly plead ignorance. Even their demonstration videos talk up how fiber insulation absorbs heat during the day, and releases it slowly at night, which would be a better description of thermal mass than insulation. With overzealous, reality-distorting sales hype like his I'd buy a competitors goop rather than his, if listed on the Cool Roof Rating Council site with comparable or better specs. See: http://www.coolroofs.org/products/search.php . And in your application I'd also plan for some foam and/or fiber insulation on all six sides of the can.

@Emz - thanks for the support. I just posted an update this morning. We got the appraisal on the 10 acres and it is higher than what we are paying for it. We should be proud land owners by October 15th. Then it is just to shop for containers. Probably take a vacation down to Houston/Galveston port area and start shopping.

I am really glad you are following along with our build. I hope to get much more content with pictures and videos so that anyone can duplicate our processes.

Stay tuned!

Hi Guys,

I am the owner of the containerhome.info, site that got a mention by one of your readers earlier in this thread.

I just wanted to confirm a couple of points made in the follow on.

1, the reader that mentioned my site is not connected in anyway with my site so please don't feel that he or we where trying to some how drop in a sneaky link to promote our site, so whilst I appreciate the readers "vote of confidence" in our site that is all it was.

Secondly I would like to address the issue raised of our "selling something" and the idea that that fact somehow negates our ability to be "unbiased" about providing information about Container Homes

And lastly the extension that this should some how remove us from participating in these types of discussions.

Now I realize that by even raising this subject I take the risk of "disagreeing" with readers here but I think its important to present the other side of the story.

So Yes ....

We run the most heavily trafficked Container Home site in the world and yes we have modified some 3D design software in an attempt to provide a tool that people will value in helping them to design Container Homes we also offer a series of 15 video tutorials the first two ( an hour in total ) are free for anyone that is interested.

That said jeepingetowah commented that

PLEASE DONT SERIOUSLY EXPECT TO PUSH A SALE ITEM and say things like you have said. Personally I don't want to hear from people pushing a product. If you are pushing a product to my understanding there is a protocol.

1. First you announce yourself as SELLING
2. Disclose that you are trying to drum up attention for a product
3. Disclose the product.

Even then... pesonally I came here for DIY help for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But jeepingetowah You have referenced your own site that documents your Container Home Build. http://ecodale.blogspot.com/ havent you ?

Now that site is running Google Adsense.

And the intent of Adsense is to allow publishers like you to run ads on their site and make money by showing their visitors these ads.

Now don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with running Adsense - I also make money from Adsense on my site.

But iIn this spirit I find your comments about "disclosure" most hypocritical

By using Adsense your trying to make money from your site and at a stretch you could be accquesed of using this forum to drive traffic to the site where you make money.

You don't "disclose" that you make money from visitors to your site but you do.

So the real question here should be this....

Is there value in your site for readers of this forum, and the answer is absolutely yes

So should you be disqualified from participation just because your running commercial ads on your site about container homes ? Absoluetly not.

In the same spirit I ask myself - Do I feel we have value for people interested in container homes over at our site ?

Well we have a free 3D design tool intended to help people with designing container homes. Yes there is a $25 upgrade but the only reason that someone would consider purchasing the $25 upgrade is that they downloaded the free version and liked it so much they wanted the upgrade.

Also we have a series of 15 videos on How to Build a Container but the first hour of videos are free for everyone.

Again the only reason that anyone would consider purchasing the balance of the videos after the first hour is that they saw great value in the first hour of free content and wanted to access the rest, there is no obligation.

So I hope that you can see that we are both trying to add value to this community, your monetizing your site through paid ads and I am monetizing my site by giving away what I think is valuable content and asking for an upgrade if you like it

I hope you can see we are much closer than we are apart.

That said I have enjoyed reading both your site and this forum, and if anyone has any specific questions that I might be able to help with please feel free to let me know.

Regards

Victor
