If you're concerned about sound, research stc ratings of building assemblies. Usually your cost effective route is a second layer of drywall over resilient channel, most chain motels use that method. You can also use thick vinyl mats over walls that will absorb sound waves, spray foam, acoustical sealant, design considerations, ect. You should be able to find listed stc ratings for different assemblies and you can run costs per l.f. from there.
