Dec 8th now and no response from Ivan.. I guess that says it all, they don't stand by their product and I can't recommend that anyone uses it.

Colin: I have actually not received the email you posted in this blog. I wish you would have emailed it directly to me again instead of relying on a blog for an answer. I actually have just seen you posts today! Nevertheless, your case is certainly the first claiming water leakage. We do in fact stand by our products and have been supplying many very successful ICF pool projects for several years and have seen a dramatic increase in the past 3 years. Our website and facebook page is updated often with completed ICF pool projects by very happy customers. Unfortunately, there is always the occasional issue on a project that can be resolved directly with the manufacturer instead of relying on a distant blog.

Guys I use PebbleTec as the finish on my pools, Ivan's product doesn't work we installed it twice on one pool after it failed the first time. We then put Pebbletec on and have never looked back.
He didn't stand behind his product and we certainly didn't get refunded, we also had to empty the pool twice and fill it up with tankers which you can imagine is many thousands, plus labor etc etc. Anyway this was such a long time ago so onwards and upwards.

Yes mate, we did several tests directly to the foam and it worked very well, we though still add a base coat with mesh first. It is sprayed on and has small stones, beads or precious stones in the mix, and is then troweled into shape. pebbletec.com

Ivan,

Sorry, your product has given us such pain that I would never, never suggest anyone use it. And when you say " Nevertheless, your case is certainly the first claiming water leakage. " I'd refer you to HamptonICF's posts above, I'm not alone in thinking your product is unfit for use.

Thanks appreciate the update on the ICF POOLS, We specialize in ICF construction and have not yet tried the pool application, but i am thinking about doing one at my house(just in case it goes south), so we can get some experience with it before we start selling them to our clients. i am sure i will be in touch, where is Hamptons located? talk soon, [email protected]

Hi Bill, We are based in the Hamptons at the tip of Long Island NY. It's a playground for the rich and famous from New York and Europe. Good luck let me know how you go. Remember to pour wall and floor together it's much stronger. Best Jay

Have any of you considered using a one-sided ICF form? similar to the build block hardwall (http://buildblock.com/products/buildlock-knockdown-icfs/buildblock-hardwall/)?

I'm looking to do a DIY insulated pool within a year or two and was looking at something like this purely for 2 reasons:

1) thermal mass effect of the concrete - helping maintain the water temp by using what's already there

2) providing an easier (and potentially cheaper) siding for the finish coat, whatever it may be - not having to worry about specialized products that will stick to the foam and be durable enough that there are no worries of puncturing the coating or otherwise fracturing it.

Just looking for thoughts. much appreciated.

Or use standard poured concrete forms with EPS dropped into them. Water has so much thermal mass that a little concrete won't change things significantly.

jonr,

I considered that, but I've read that's not easily done as a DIY project. (maybe not the case?) I don't really care which way I go, but cost will be likely the biggest factor, another reason I plan to DIY it.

EDIT: I hadn't thought about the thermal mass of the water itself. I guess my thought was also that the water will lose heat to the air whereas the concrete would absorb heat during the day and release it to the water over night (and with a cover on, should keep it nice and warm for the next day), but maybe it is just as you say at that point ... not significant enough to make a difference? This is just me trying to think through the whole process.

I realize this thread is pretty old but am curious about smartwall's suggestion of using surface bonding cement to cover the foam in an ICF pool. Nobody responded to his suggestion, but if it sticks to the foam, it seems like a good DIY solution. Smartwall, can you give any more details on application? Or do you just pretend it's a CMU block wall and trowel it on?
Thanks for any thoughts.

I'm not using a liner. I'm building an inground ICF plunge pool and need a final finish on the foam. Pebble Tec and pool plaster seem complicated compared to surface bonding cement.
