So I am building a new home in Washington State. Everything I buy is, 1 local and 2 US made. I am trying to find a radiant heat company that will design the layout and sell me Made in America 100% products. I will install. Any help would be appreciated.

There's no such thing as "100% made in USA products" in this biz. Some or most of the metals (particularly the aluminum) come from off-shore ore and smelted/refined off shore, even if the final parts are machined/extruded/stamped in the US, the PEX will come from a number of hydrocarbon feedstocks, many of which will be sourced outside the US. There is still some bauxite mining going on in Arkansas, but good luck in verifying that any aluminum part in a radiant heating system came from US ore and was smelted in the US. Aluminum refiners seek out the cheapest electrical power they can find with proximity to bulk-shipping- until recently a lot of that cheap power has been in Iceland, with it's rich hydroelectric & geothermal power with deep water port access, which made it economic to ship bauxite across the world for refining. I don't know of any truly large-scale aluminum smelting & refining operations going on within the US, but if wicked-local counts, Alcoa still has a plant south of Wenatchee conveniently parked near the Rock Island Dam- not sure if their ore-sources are USA-only though. They probably make their money off specialty alloys for the (fairly local) aircraft industry, but you might be able to track heat transfer extrusions or sheet metal to billet sourced from there if you really dig hard. |

I hope you will allow Canadian. Many made products actually cross the border numerous times before being sold there as American. For pex manifolds, get Alberta Custom Tee which is made with Cerro copper(IIRC) in the US and get Dahl valves from toronto. They invented the mini ball valve with PEX adapters and are still the best. No offshore products in them.
Both REHAU and WIRSBO (oops UPONOR) have plants in the US. REHAU is a better tube...lower O2 perm rates.

We are a Washington state company, located on Vashon Island... Hey!! Have you guys always been there? You need a name like "Evergreen" or "Northwest", so we don't think you are out on the East Coast or something. |
