Hello, Hoping I can get a few ideas from GBT here. I've built an ICF house. Stone coated Steel roof is ready to go on. The entire attic is sealed with open cell spray foam. Now we're boxing in the soffits and exterior ceilings of the deck area that has not been spray foamed. I'm concerned of moisture buildup and am uncertain if I need to vent the dead air space. Currently, in the mornings, the roof deck has condensation on it where the attic is foamed to the roof deck but the soffits roof decking is dry. Would it make sense to vent these areas? I will be installing Dens Glass to the underside and it will be coated with a 2 part Omega acrylic. Any feedback/opinions would be appreciated. Northern California foothills area. Cheers!
I love any new challenges and ideas. Briing it!

Given your number of posts, I doubt you monitor your threads, but I am going to try anyway.  I am working on a design for a home in Oregon with the focus on longevity and strength of the various building materials.  I have been considering a combination of ICF with a stone coated steel panel roof and SGP interlayer windows.  My difficulty is identifying a builder who would have experience with these materials.  With your experience, I was hopeing you might be aware of builders in the Oregon/Northern California area who had worked with those particular combinations of materials.  Thanks, Mike

Mike; sorry don't know anyone in those areas, you may want to contact a local disributor of stone coated roofing in your area and they can direct you to someone with experience. I do monitor my threads

You want to vent a cavity to the inside or the outside, never neither and never both.

Chris, Thank you for the response and I am confident that you do monitor your threads!  It was roundeye who I thought might not.  roundeye appears to have had experience with ICF+stone coated steel roof in northern california, so I was hoping to identify the builder with that - rare as far as I can tell - experience in that area.

I would be happy to provide any information required about stone coated roofing.

The difference is clear

I used the Gerald Stone Coated steel roofing system with a raised grid system so it vents itself. If you call up Gerald, they have trained installers and will only warranty their materials if it's installed by their approved contractors. Hope that helps.

I have not heard of Gerald.  Did you mean Gerard or Decra?

We have a trained Gerard Installer on staff. We have installed the "Canyon" shake roof. We have the required shears and metal brake to do the proper installation. Gerard is a Metals USA subsidarary
