I would like to see the pictures…pictures being worth a 1000 words and all... Even more than that, I would like see Milgard respond to these specific allegations and provide the additional info I requested.

Pick a window that has an AAMA 625 finish. This gives you protection of fade of 1 Delta or less for 10 years. Even a 624 paint would be a great choice.

THIS IS THE OUTSIDE OF THE WINDOW - The vinyl separated and the window seal failed. They pulled the windows and used double sided tape and silicone caulk to reseal it but since then all the movement/expansion made the glazing seal fail once again. It's a flawed design and is doomed to fail.

OUTSIDE PICTURE - As you can see the vinyl is deteriorating and the color is basically turning to powder and rubbing your finger across it results in the above. These frames are supposed to be brown, not what you see above.

OUTSIDE - The vinyl frame distorted and bowed out and this is the permanent shape it is now.

OUTSIDE  - Same issue as mentioned before.

Need I mention all the sliders leak air like crazy and when it rains the track fills with water and spills over. Milgard said this is "normal" during a wind driven rain and the recommended drilling more holes in the rail to help drain the water faster.

Hello, I am building an ICF home on the water in the Virgin Islands and have to make a window choice. I used PGT in my current home which is immediatley next door and can report that our extremely harsh climate ruined these windows in less than 10 years. I am leaning towards fiberglass. Anyone care to make a suggestion on a brand that you are pleased wirh?
Andersen windows are high quality. I used the 400 series which is vinyl over wood on the exterior and painted wood on the interior. No idea what their tropical climate rating is though, but I'm sure they will tell you. My only question is what the tropical climate will do to the wood, even though it's covered. Their 100 series are fiberglass frame.

Another high quality, and pricey, window are vinyl windows by http://www.vinyltechwindows.com/ in Canada. When I was planning my house build I was on the Journal of Light Construction forums: http://forums.jlconline.com/forums/forum.php. There was a retired builder on there from California who argued that these windows were the absolute best in North America, and he hated vinyl windows! He used them on a multi-million dollar home. They are a highly reinforced vinyl construction with steel frame inside. I would have used them but the local dealer, a siding replacement company, quoted me more than double what the Andersen ones cost me.

Even a retired engineer can build a house successfully w/ GBT help!
