I was wondering if anyone knows of a good resource to find contractors? I have been looking online and all I have seen are sites where you have to describe the job then wait to get called from a contractor or if I find a directory type of site there is a limited number of contractors in my area, but I know there are many more. I am trying to build my first house and I was planning on hiring all the contractors so I need a good resource to find them. Something with reviews and article would also be very beneficial, please let me know if anyone knows of a good place to look.

I don't know if you will find a website that has everything that you are looking for. You could let us know where you are building and someone may be able to make a reccomendation. Outside of that, search locally, ask for references, and go to see recent examples of their work. You can also go see local suppliers and see if they have a list of contractors that they can reccomend.

Look here, there is a contractor "directory" look at the top of this page.

Try your local or state HomeBuilders Association!

Try changing the question. What you are  looking for are Subcontractors not gerenral contractors .

You should give location of project size type  and projected budget.  If your are owner builder good  luck.

It's a  jungle out there.

Sounds like you are logging onto a Leads generator website, contractors who belong pay big bucks for your name and number, chances are they guys you are going to get calls from are service type contractors, usually a little more expensive on new construction since they don't specialize in that field.

Follow Jim's advice, local HBA. Local builders supply, etc.

Another neat trick that works...you must know someone in construction...think of Six Degrees of Seperation. You generally see your house built smoother when all the guys somehow know each other.

The people that typically post helpful "I hope" info here are generally builders using insulated concrete forms. Some are shell subcontractors others are general contractors. Are you looking for an ICF builder or other type of construction? If you are going to build using the best technology available today, i.e. ICF, I am sure that any of us can help you find subs that are familiar with the product.
